The week in which Mehmet Akif Ersoy's world of ideas was discussed on the axis of science, art, literature, and sports began with the International 6th Mehmet Akif Ersoy Science and Art Awards Ceremony.
The ceremony held on December 22, 2025, at Lavanta Tepesi Hotel was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı. In the award program, which has been made traditional by MAKÜ, 8 awards in 4 different categories found their owners. At the ceremony, the importance of keeping Mehmet Akif Ersoy's legacy alive through science and art was emphasized.
On the same day, the producer and actors of the series “Gönül Dağı” met with the people of Burdur at MAKÜ.
Within the week, at the panel titled “Mehmet Âkif Ersoy’s Egypt Years and Qur'an Translation Efforts,” a lesser-known period of the poet's life was discussed from academic perspectives.
In the concert “Voices of Truth from Akif” organized within the framework of art events, literature and music came together, while the Mehmet Akif Ersoy themed poster exhibition prepared by MAKÜ Faculty of Art and Design students met with art lovers at Prof. Dr. İlhan Varank Library.
Collector and President of the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thought and Art Foundation, Mehmet Ruyan Soydan, came together with students for a conversation. TEI-TUSAŞ General Manager Prof. Dr. Mahmut Faruk Akşit gave a prominent conference with the message “We must be producers, not buyers, of technology.”
The theatrical music and dance show prepared by MAKÜ Turkish Music State Conservatory brought the spirit of the national struggle to the stage. The Akif Week sports tournaments organized by the Faculty of Sports Sciences were also completed with an award ceremony.
In the “Science Cafe” event, the theme of family and homeland love was addressed, while in the poetry recital staged by the MAKÜ Theater Group, the verses of Mehmet Akif Ersoy came to life again.
Mehmet Âkif Ersoy was commemorated on the 89th anniversary of his death with a ceremony held at his grave in Edirnekapı Cemetery in Istanbul. At the ceremony, a wreath was laid on the poet's grave by MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar.
The week concluded with the dance narrative “Korkma” staged at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) in Istanbul. The show, prepared by MAKÜ Turkish Music State Conservatory academics and students, brought Mehmet Akif Ersoy's inner world and the spirit of the National Struggle to the stage through music, body, and narrative language. The performance received prolonged applause from art lovers on the AKM stage.
It was noted that the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Week, which started in Burdur and concluded in Istanbul, was remembered as a cultural gathering contributing to the transmission of the poet's intellectual and artistic legacy to future generations.
