Scientific and technological studies at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University continue to attract attention. The pomade patent developed by MAKÜ scientists has been registered.

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kale, a faculty member of the Department of Preclinical Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at MAKÜ, the patent titled "Improved 5 Topical Pomade for the Treatment of Wounds Caused by Microorganisms in the Skin and Nails of Animals" developed by Prof. Dr. Dilek Öztürk, Faculty Members of the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Dr. Nuri Mamak and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kürşad Yiğitarslan, Pharmacist Ahmet Ak and Pharmacy Technician Ramazan Şencan, was registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

Regarding the patent, which is an important step that increases the recognition of MAKÜ nationally and internationally, and the successful completion of the patent process of the innovative and valuable invention, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar stated that MAKÜ continues to reap the concrete fruits of its specialization projects in the field of animal husbandry, and said the following:

We Are Proud to Produce Solutions for the Benefit of Our Country

Our product had already hit the market and the patent application had been made earlier. The patent certificate has been officially approved and reached us. Our valuable professors have worked hard, worked for a long time and developed a herbal pomade for foot diseases, which is a big problem for breeders, especially in cattle. This is the third product we have patented in our livestock projects. These kinds of R&D projects are like popping corn; you look and it seems like there is nothing, but when the projects start popping, the pot suddenly fills up and starts to overflow. From now on, we will be in front of you frequently with products that we have patented and commercialized. We will develop products that will be exported not only in Turkey but also abroad. Sharing these solutions, which are for the benefit of our country and the industry, with the public is a great pride and honor for us. The main thing is to be a remedy for a problem of the industry and to produce solutions that will reduce dependence on abroad. I would like to thank the leader of the project, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kale, and our other valuable professors for their efforts.

Will also be exported abroad

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kale, a faculty member of the Department of Preclinical Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, who provided information about the patent, emphasized that the product is domestic and said, “This product is a domestic product produced in our country and is used instead of products previously imported from abroad. This gel, which can be used in diseases caused by infection and non-infection in problems such as foot diseases, lameness and wounds seen especially in cattle, sheep and goats, can be used without antibiotics. The product has been on the market for a long time and is now patented. In foot diseases, which are seen in 40% of the problems in large farms, this product contributes to healing. In addition, it is planned to be exported abroad.”

Animals Heal Faster

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kürşad Yiğitarslan from the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine emphasized the advantages of the product and said, “In some cases, serious results cannot be obtained without using antibiotics. A dressing is also required to ensure the permanence of the drugs we use. But in environments left to the barn environment, both the wetting of the dressing and the need for daily change impose a workload on the person. To prevent this, this gel we have created can be dried in about 10 minutes after applying to the foot or with a hair dryer (cold) in 3 minutes, the animal is left back to its living space, no bandage application is made. This situation also saves labor and causes animals to heal faster.”

MAKÜ will continue to contribute to our country's stronger position in the field of science and technology.
