The festival, which will be held at the university's Amphitheater area between May 5-7, 2025, aims for students to both relax and have fun to the fullest.

The festival started on Monday, May 5, at 14:00 with a colorful parade starting from the Köprübaşı location. Many student groups, including national flags, banners of various communities, motorcycles of the Motorcycle Community, and especially the Theater Community, participated in the parade with colorful costumes. The university's senior management and academics also accompanied the cortege walk, which continued to Cumhuriyet Square.

At the opening ceremony continuing at Cumhuriyet Square, first, the folk dance teams of MAKÜ and Isparta Süleyman Demirel University (SDÜ) took the stage. After the performances, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar took the podium and gave a speech about the meaning and importance of the festival.

“This enthusiasm is our students' festival”

In his speech, Rector Dalgar emphasized that MAKÜFEST is a joint festival organized not only for students but for all the people of Burdur, saying, “We have gathered here today to share in the joy and excitement of our students. We wanted to start MAKÜFEST not only within the campus boundaries but in the heart of the city, in the square. Throughout the festival, a full program awaits you, from concerts to sports competitions, cultural and artistic events to social gatherings. Today, at our university, we have become a large family with 1,200 international students from 38 different countries and over 35,000 students from 81 provinces of our country. Mehmet Akif Ersoy University is now the home of young people not only from Burdur but from all over Turkey and the world. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this meeting, this integration, once again.”

Rector Dalgar, drawing attention to the university-city integration, stated that thanks to sports tourism, social events, and international student diversity, Burdur has become a cultural center both nationally and internationally. Emphasizing that the university plays an active role not only in academic but also in cultural and social responsibilities, Rector Dalgar used the following expressions: “This university is not only ours; it is the university of the people, tradesmen, industrialists, public institutions, the press, and all the people of Burdur. As much as we have a say here, every fellow citizen in Burdur has just as much say. I would like to especially state that we are always open to their views and suggestions and that we have great respect for them. I thank our Ministry of Culture and Tourism for supporting us in organizing these concerts and invite the people of Burdur to our concerts and all our events.”

The opening ceremony was attended by Burdur Member of Parliament Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, AK Party Provincial Chairman Mustafa Özboyacı, faculty deans, academics, and students.
