Under the academic consultancy of Faculty of Science and Letters Molecular Biology and Genetics Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Şenol Güzel, together with the Recycling and Zero Waste Community students, 1000 ornamental fish (Koi and goldfish) were released into the pond in the recreation area under construction at the İstiklal Campus.
This work, carried out in line with MAKÜ's green campus goals, contributed both to increasing biological diversity and to creating an ecological recreation area where students can connect more closely with nature.
The fish release event also aligns with the criteria evaluated under the 'Campus and Infrastructure' and 'Environmental Education' headings of the international sustainability index UI GreenMetric. Thus, the project contributes not only to environmental improvements but also to students' nature-based learning processes.
MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar made the following statement about the work:
“With our living campus approach, we aim to create an educational and living environment in harmony with nature. Through this project, we aim to provide our students not only with academic knowledge but also with ecological awareness.”
This exemplary practice, carried out with consideration for the natural balance, will continue to be developed as part of the university's long-term sustainability plans.
