Recently, with the projects they have carried out in the field of livestock, the name of our university, which specializes in livestock, has been frequently mentioned. The Honamlı breed goats, raised through 15 years of scientific research at our university's Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Research Application and Research Center, have been put up for sale by auction.

40 kids of the goats, raised free from diseases and registered as the 'Honamlı breed' at our university farm, were offered for sale to breeders through an auction.

Producers from provinces such as Düzce, Antalya, Isparta, and Afyon, including Burdur center, participated in the auction and entered into fierce competition to acquire the Honamlı breed goats.

Honamlı breed is a very valuable local breed

The director of the center, Dr. Lecturer İlktan Baştan, stated in his pre-auction statement; “Today, as a result of the breeding studies conducted by our university's academics for 15 years, we are offering for sale by auction the disease-free Honamlı kids with high twin potential obtained from the core herd created within our Research Center. Breeders are participating in the auction not only from the Burdur region but also from provinces such as Düzce, Antalya, Isparta, and Afyon. This shows how correctly we are doing this work and how much we care about it. We will present a total of 40 female and male Honamlı goats to our breeders here. The Honamlı goat is especially raised in the Isparta, Burdur, Antalya, and Konya regions, and most importantly, it is a very valuable local breed that converts plant resources in mountainous areas, where modern agriculture cannot be done, meaning where agricultural machinery cannot enter, into meat and milk, has high life resistance, and its kids have a much higher growth rate compared to other goat breeds.” He said.

Producers who came to our university farm to participate in the auction for Honamlı breed goats also stated that they heard about the auction either from the news or through acquaintances and that they aim to acquire Honamlı breed goats and increase the local breed.
